Short answer: Yes.
I had hair loss since the age of 12 years and has been hard! Now I'm in my 30s. No one can say that I have hair loss because they use a wig to Nice. But he is always in my head.
My parents sent me to school only 13 years after losing all his hair. I was overcome alone for the rest of my teenage years, too. He also thought that baldness is caused by psychological problems (which our doctor said, useless).
Would try my response to the situation, "perfect" in my appearance in any other. Body, face, style .... I had a brief encounter with anorexia, but they leave before more damage was done.
As alopecia is very difficult for a woman of any age, especially in a teenager suffering from the usual teenage insecurities.
I can only recommend is be there to support her daughter and everything seems to be the best for them. Do not force you, that they want to wear a wig or not use. You force your situation WHbefore a wig is complicated.
There is no cure for a value of hair loss. The remedy is the acceptance and trust. As a Christian helps.
